nudged him awake
wings aflutter
faint scent of cake
The goblin grunted, frowned
he thrashed with rage
he could not recall
how he had arrived in this cage
He calmed, then slumped
unsure what to do
he peered past the wooden bars
hopeful for a clue
Lithe silhouettes danced in the dusk
a young female pranced closer than the rest
memories flashed at the sight
of the freckles sprinkled across her chest
Smiling chocolate eyes
warm summer air
meadows of flowers
the scent of oils in her hair
Pressed hard against the cracked bars
he tried to pull her nigh
with the plea in his eyes
without a glance she turned, sigh
Staring now at his cage
he can’t see past the bars
the brittle wood
eclipsing the stars
Shunned and alone
in his prison of wood
he wished he could join them
not knowing that he could
